‘In a sense human flesh is made of stardust’

This quotation from Nigel Calder’s BBC documentary, The Key To The Universe: A Report on the New Physics, 1977 summarizes the mind-blowing thought that virtually every atom in the human body was fashioned in stars that formed, grew old and exploded before the Sun and the Earth even existed. ‘I feel that the popularization of science is a kind of secular New Testament, making accessible the scale of our universe; bringing me at least, a rich source of wonder.’
